Selecting a claim to expose
Nixs News Tamil continuously monitors social media, newspaper printing and satellite media for misleading news or false news. Our sources for topics include:
Social media videos, post and tweets of politicians and officials or other notable profiles
Researching the claim
Once a suspicious/manipulative claim has been selected for a fact check, Nixs News Tamil engages in manual or systematic research to verify it. To expose any fake claim, Nixs News Tamil may use one or more of the below methodologies:
Using search engine like (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex…) with search filters (date, time etc.) to arrive at the origin of posts and messages circulating on the internet and Google Fact checking tools "https://toolbox.google.com/factcheck/explorer"
Establishing contact with the local authorities or police in case of viral rumours
Reviewing original video or transcript to verify
Referring to primary data or official data source/s
Contacting the person to whom a seemingly fake claim is attributed.
Validating the claim
Using a variety of tools and methods described above, Nixs News Tamil evaluates the veracity of a claim and arrives at a conclusion. Where relevant, more than one tool is used to conclusively expose the fake claim.
